Direct unattended cremation – a simple, dignified choice

Thinking about having a direct cremation? With Barringtons Funeral Services you can rest easy knowing that your loved one will receive a personal and caring service. And you’ll have the flexibility to commemorate their life in a way that feels right for you.

Five good reasons to choose a SAIF local independent funeral director for a direct cremation:
– Personal care & attention – experience a level of care that larger corporations simply cannot match. Our team will take the time to get to know you and ensure your loved one is looked after with dignity
– Your loved one stays local – spend time with your loved before the cremation – a service not offered by national firms, which operate from central crematoria a long way from your home
– Transparency & fair pricing – don’t get stung by hidden fees, a very real risk with the corporate providers whose adverts often lack information about additional charges
– Flexibility for future memorials – changed your mind about holding a service or memorial gathering? No problem. Just tell a member of our team
– Local knowledge & support – get the advice and guidance you need from a team that’s part of your community

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we still have a memorial service with direct cremation?

Absolutely. Many families choose direct cremation specifically because it allows you to plan a memorial service or celebration of life at a later date, in a location and format that feels right. This could be in your home, a favorite location, or any venue you choose.

Can we see our loved one before the cremation?

Yes, we can arrange viewings at our funeral home for an additional fee. This gives you the opportunity to say goodbye privately in a peaceful setting.

How long does it take to receive the ashes?

Typically, ashes are returned within 7 working days. We offer an express service if you need them sooner.

What happens during an unattended cremation?

Your loved one is cremated at a time scheduled by the crematorium, without family or friends in attendance. However, the same care, dignity, and respect is shown as with any cremation service. We will tell you the date and time of the committal at the crematorium.

Can we scatter or keep the ashes?

Yes, the ashes are yours to keep, scatter, bury, or place in a memorial location of your choice. We can provide guidance on scattering locations and memorial options. Or if you prefer we can arrange for them to be scattered in the garden of remembrance in the crematorium.

Is Direct Cremation right for everyone?

Direct Cremation is a personal choice. It's ideal for those who prefer simplicity, want to plan their own memorial, or are on a limited budget. However, if a traditional funeral service is important to you or your family, we offer comprehensive bespoke options as well.
